Business Roundtable Statement on Senate Police Reform Vote

Jun 24, 2020

Washington – Business Roundtable today issued a statement following failure by the U.S. Senate to proceed to debate on S. 3985, the Just and Unifying Solutions to Invigorate Communities Everywhere (JUSTICE) Act:

“Like so many Americans who want our elected leaders to step up and urgently address the crisis of the killing of unarmed Black men and women, Business Roundtable CEOs are disappointed that the Senate today failed to come together around meaningful police reform legislation. For significant reform to be accomplished, both the Senate and House must work across party lines to move bills that can be debated, negotiated, voted on and ultimately signed into law.
“While today’s procedural vote in the Senate is a setback, the House is slated to advance its bill tomorrow, and Business Roundtable welcomes steps to keep the legislative process moving forward. We urge both parties to continue to negotiate in good faith to keep momentum for enactment of real reform before Congress’ August recess.”
